Kinja'd!!!

I drove the Miata about 100 miles today. No destinations, just some fun driving. Probably drove the Volvo an equal amount today as well . Keeping with tradition , something on the Volvo broke— because of course it did— and the Miata handled redline shifts and general abuse like a champ.

Despite an unending stream of broken parts from the Volvo, I really love my two-car garage at the moment. They both bring me a ton of joy, in very different ways.

If nothing else, this will all only make you appreciate your Miata more.

We should swap our wagons for a drive sometime. If you can stomach the existence of one of those things that shifts automatically for you.

The fact that there are MULTIPLE common points of failure that will stop you from being able to open your hood... #volvolife

That sounds like fun! I just learned I have heated mirrors and a button to turn on rear fog lights , so assuming those don' t stop working I hope you’re ready to succumb to FANCINESS

That’s...

*does math*

FIVE times the braking power!!

Well since most cars have 3 brake lights, it’s actually only 66.66666666% more than usual.

[has a math degree but uses a calculator app for simple arithmetic]

I’m realizing what a terrible mistake it was to sell my V70. :(

I can’t help but be apprehensive about the whole thing ... I’ve only driven 2 P80 V70s. One was an NA, and the other was a completely ruined and knackered ‘98 R . Am I waiting for a good one to come up just to not like it?! I loved my P2, and it was just a 2.5T, so I can’t see how I wouldn’t like one... Or should I look for a P2 R that will inevitably  bankrupt me on maintenance?

P2 V70 R would be hard to pass up, but it seems like a manual one with any level of maintainance beyond “ticking time bomb” levels would stretch the budget, no?

I guess just keep test-driving whatever comes up locally. Maybe a visit to Millennium Motors..? Pretty sure they have some manuals

I’ve driven a good P2 V70 R with an automatic. It’s offered at a dealer near my work. It is gooooood. But, with a $6k buy-in on a 13 year old car that’s notorious for high operating costs, I just can’t get myself to buy it, and that’s the best example of an inexpensive R I’ve found (it’s the one I posted about last week that blew the dipstick out because clogged PCV).  Clean P80 Rs with 150-200k miles are selling in the $2,500-$3,500 range. That leaves a lot more comfortable space for repairs.

Heated mirrors is one of two options that my crown vic has (the other is the LSD). It’s apparently pretty rare for them, and one of them even still works. It’s really nice when the car’s covered in ice, not that you would know.
